SUMMARY:Mötesplats Rydberg: Quantum mechanics - The beginning
DESCRIPTION:Contact: cord.arnold@fysik.lu.se\n\nWith Professor Andreas Wack
 er\, Mathematical Physics\, Department of Physics\, Lund University.This s
eminar is part of a series organised by Lund University in recognition of
the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). All semina
rs in the series are presented on the Quantum in Lund website.Abstract&nbs
p\;100 years ago\, Werner Heisenberg published a groundbreaking paper enti
tled 'On the Quantum-Theoretical Reinterpretation of Kinematic and Mechani
cal Relations'.Werner Heisenberg’s article on the Springer website.&nbsp
\;This was the first conceptual formalism covering quantum features which
had been introduced since 1900 by Planck\, Einstein\, Bohr and others on a
phenomenological basis. Shortly afterwards Erwin Schrödinger published t
he equation that now bears his name.Schrödinger’s equation in Wiley’s
online library. This breakthrough catalyzed rapid developments\, including
Dirac’s quantum theory of the emission and absorption of radiation (192
 7) and Bloch’s theorem (1929). These laid the foundations to semiconduct
or and laser technology\, which is indispensable in today's world. In this
  presentation\, I will explore this scientific revolution\, highlighting t
he key conceptual advances of its landmark publications.Hybrid meetingYou
can attend the Rydberg lecture hall at 15:15. Coffee and cake will be serv
ed from 15.00.You can also join Mötesplats Rydberg online via the meeting
