Climate imaginaries: Stories of fossil-free futures and climate change disruption
With Alexandra Nikoleris, Associate senior lecturer, Division of Environmental and Energy Systems Studies,
Department of Technology and Society, LTH.
Abstract
A common proposition put forward in research on collective action on climate
change is that this phenomenon needs to be made concrete and meaningful
for people in order for them to take action. Most ways in which climate change
and a transition towards a post-fossil society are represented; through models,
graphs, numbers, industry roadmaps, are too abstract and miss out on the
details which make it possible for people to imagine what a fossil-free society
might look like. In this seminar I will present and discuss research on how such
meaning can be created through 'experiential futuring', a combination of fiction,
imagination and public deliberation.
For examples see the Climaginaries.org website.
